What we do

Climate and Carbon Services

With 25% of the world’s emissions coming from business and industry, it’s no surprise that we often find people starting their sustainability journey with carbon and climate.

Our aim at Simply Sustainable is to demystify the often complex world of carbon to make it simple for our clients to act on climate change. We cut through the confusion and jargon and up-skill the teams we are working with so that they come on the journey with us.

We help businesses wherever they are on their climate journey. This could involve calculating their first carbon footprint, or setting an approved science-based target and creating a holistic strategy to help them achieve their climate goals.

We have seen increasing momentum from the private sector to tackle the climate crisis. There are many reasons behind this, but the science on climate change is undoubtedly a driving force. There was a step change in momentum in 2015 after world leaders came together in Paris at COP21 to commit to limiting global temperature increases to below 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

We are in a climate emergency and there has never been a more important time to take action on climate change. However, it can be difficult to know where to start; our role at Simply is to make this as easy and as impactful as possible for you. We join you wherever you are at on your climate journey and support you to get where you need to be. Henry Unwin Head of Climate and Carbon Services, Simply Sustainable

Other driving forces behind taking action on climate change range from employee engagement, recruitment and retention through to compliance with legislation and remaining relevant and competitive. Whatever your motivation, Simply Sustainable’s carbon and climate services can help you to understand your current baseline, set reduction targets in line with the science on climate change and develop a comprehensive strategy setting out your decarbonisation pathway. Our work on disclosures will also help you to stay compliant with the growing legislation in this area.

Our carbon and climate team, made up of in-house and industry experts, can support you at any stage of your climate journey. With experience of both developing and delivering decarbonisation strategies, we ensure that all of our work is bespoke to you and is designed to deliver the greatest impact possible.

Overcomplication is slowing down our progress towards tackling the climate crisis, and the growing levels of legislation, which help to drive progress, can also cause confusion. Our approach at Simply Sustainable is to cut through the jargon and make it easy for businesses to understand their footprint and to take action.

Our carbon and climate services cover the following areas:

  1. Carbon footprinting
  2. Net-zero target setting and strategy development
  3. SBTi submission support
  4. Climate and carbon disclosure

Throughout his career, Henry has worked for a range of organisations including environmental start-ups, charities, regional government, sustainability consultancies and in-house.

After advising Nando’s as a consultant Henry went on to join the restaurant group as their Head of Sustainability. Over his 5 years at the organisation, Henry and the team reduced the carbon footprint of the average meal by 40%, reduced direct emissions by 98% and donated over 2.5 million meals through their industry-leading food donation programme. In 2020 the company became the first restaurant group in the world with an approved Science-Based Targets initiative and a continued commitment to better chicken welfare.

In 2021 Henry joined Daylesford Organic and Bamford as their Director of Sustainability where he was responsible for keeping these pioneering businesses at the forefront of sustainability. Henry drove impact throughout the supply chain: from organic and regenerative farming practices, through to hospitality, retail, clothing, skincare and spas. During his time at the company, Henry led the creation of its sustainability strategy and projects on soil carbon assessment, product and corporate carbon footprinting and sustainability comms. This culminated in the group achieving B Corp accreditation.

Carbon Footprint

Carbon footprint

The impact of climate change is being felt globally, and carbon is now one of the most pressing risks faced by businesses. Over the years, we have developed tried and tested ways to help businesses decarbonise.

Net zero strategy

Scope 3 and supply chain

Robust and credible Scope 3 emission calculations as part of a complete carbon footprint is increasingly the norm. Scope 3 captures the emissions associated with your company’s value chain from waste management to investment emissions looking both upstream and downstream.

Carbon consultancy

Net-zero services

Ambitious and science-based net-zero targets are increasingly the norm and increasingly expected by customers, suppliers and other significant stakeholders. Ever since COP21, better known as the Paris Climate Change Agreement in 2016, we have seen many businesses and countries committing to reduce their emissions and announcing net-zero target dates.

SBTi Strategy Consultancy

SBTi submission support

Ambitious and science-based decarbonisation and net-zero targets are increasingly the norm. Companies are validating their targets through the Science Based Targets initiative and other net-zero pathways.

Carbon and Climate Disclosures

Robust and credible non-financial reporting is increasingly the norm. New mandatory standards for sustainability reporting have been introduced in Europe, the UK and the US.
