Fastned board training
Supervisory and management boards play an increasingly important role in the oversight of companies’ sustainability agendas, including the assessment of sustainability-related impacts, risks and opportunities, and integrating this with business strategy. This role is now formalised as a requirement under the CSRD. Thus, to perform this role effectively, board members require up-to-date sustainability knowledge and access to relevant expertise.
The board training conducted by Simply Sustainable for Fastned equipped members of its supervisory board, management board and senior leadership team with a strong understanding of the evolving regulatory landscape, particularly with the introduction of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). In the training, participants gained up-to-date knowledge on sustainability trends and climate-related risks and opportunities associated with Fastned’s operations. It fostered a dynamic discussion around aligning business strategy with sustainability goals and effectively communicating these insights to stakeholders. Overall, the session empowered the board to navigate regulatory changes proactively and strengthen Fastned’s commitment to sustainable business practices across Europe.
The targets
- Provided board members with sound understanding of the evolving sustainability landscape – understanding the ‘bigger picture’.
- Made board members aware of Fastned’s obligations in accordance with the latest regulations.
Impacts and benefits
- Helped board members understand the sustainability -related risks and opportunities associated with the business and how to communicate this externally.
- Equipped board members with the knowledge to develop Fastned’s annual report in alignment with regulatory requirements.
The results
Having crafted a thorough and engaging workshop tailored to Fastned’s needs, Simply Sustainable conducted a 2-hour training session with board members and management to update them on the latest developments. This led to a lively discussion on forthcoming EU regulations, specifically the CSRD and CSDDD, and their potential impact on Fastned. The insights and discussion during the session directly resulted in more clarity about how to communicate Fastned’s sustainability ambition and performance to different audiences.
The board training delivered by Simply Sustainable was helpful for many reasons. It brought everyone onto the same page regarding sustainability knowledge, and allowed for us to have a thoughtful discussion about the direction in which we’d like to go.Emily Eckhous Sustainability Manager, Fastned
The story
As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Fastned, an impact-driven enterprise on a mission to accelerate the transition to electric mobility across Europe, engaged Simply Sustainable to conduct a dynamic and interactive training workshop to bring its boards up to speed on the latest regulations. Seeking to understand how the regulatory landscape is shifting in the EU, Fastned asked us to explain and discuss the latest sustainability trends, the potential climate-related risks and opportunities for the business, and how best to communicate this to their stakeholders.
Following a kick-off meeting with Fastned’s sustainability manager to discuss the training objectives and overall agenda, we developed a comprehensive workshop detailing the key regulations and frameworks relevant to Fastned, including the CSRD, Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the EU Taxonomy. Recognising that storytelling is just as crucial to Fastned as regulatory compliance, we incorporated company examples of CSRD-aligned reports and other types of sustainability-related communication into the training. This was to provide the group with insights into potential ways for Fastned to communicate its ESG-related impacts, risks and opportunities to external audiences in a compelling and pragmatic way.
