Simply Sustainable partnered with pladis to develop its global ‘Happy People, Happy Planet one pladis’ sustainability strategy between July 2024 and May 2025.
The project was delivered in parallel with a CSRD-aligned double materiality assessment (DMA). The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires companies to assess and disclose their most significant sustainability impacts, risks and opportunities in line with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). As part of this process, 24 ESRS-aligned sustainability topics were assessed across pladis’ value chain.
Building on the DMA, a comprehensive strategic analysis was undertaken, including a horizon scan, competitor benchmarking, maturity assessment and SWOT analysis. These insights informed the prioritisation of sustainability topics and the development of a global strategic framework.
A series of collaborative workshops were conducted with stakeholders across functions and regions, including sustainability, risk, finance, procurement, HR and regional teams. This ensured the strategy reflects both global priorities and regional realities, while building internal alignment and ownership.
The resulting strategy is structured around two pillars – Happy People and Happy Planet – and includes clearly defined priority topics, KPIs, targets and action plans. A tailored governance structure was also developed to support implementation across regions and functions.
Overall, the strategy provides pladis with a clear, consistent and actionable approach to sustainability, aligned with ESRS and wider best practice frameworks, and positions the business to meet evolving regulatory and stakeholder expectations.
This project has enabled us to develop a clear and globally aligned sustainability strategy, grounded in robust analysis and shaped through strong collaboration across our teams and regions, with Simply Sustainable acting as a trusted advisory partner throughout. It provides a practical framework to support delivery against our ambitions and positions us well to respond to evolving regulatory requirements.” Suzanne WestlakeGlobal Director of Sustainability, pladis
